About Us

The College of Technology, Kandy is one of the premier institutions for technical education in Sri Lanka, with a proud history dating back to 1959. It was first established with the collaboration of the Government of New Zealand under the name Multi-Technical Institution, Kandy. In 1974, the institution was relocated to Aruppola, just 2 km from Kandy city, where it continues to serve as a center of excellence in technical education.

In 2009, the institution was officially upgraded to the College of Technology level under the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET). It is currently the main center for five tech colleges affiliated with Pathadumbara, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Hasalaka and Dambulla.

The college spans over 13 acres and is equipped with modern facilities, including a spacious main building, laboratories, computer laboratories, workshops, a well-resourced library, seminar halls, and residential quarters for staff. These resources ensure an effective and supportive learning environment for students.

At present, the college offers around 52 courses across various fields, serving nearly 2,000 students each year. The academic staff consists of a team of permanent lecturers along with a strong panel of visiting professionals such as university lecturers, chartered accountants, engineers, and subject experts. They are supported by a dedicated non-academic staff who ensure the smooth functioning of the institution.
